after the fall

Walking into this little roadside church, a foreboding sign greets you at the end of a short stone pathway. It reads: 'The Grand Priestess is sleeping.' Strange. It's hardly noon, and the sign is clearly engraved. The door creaks loudly as you open it.
Within the building a welcoming... priest greets you. It has a calming presence, like a fireplace and scents of cinnamon.
"I hope you read the sign. 'Ol Sera's sleeping. Has been for months."
You ask about this church.
"Ah. Damn. We worship a goddess named Erin here. She loved- loves stories and the concept of love itself."

"I'm Avery. I think you noticed the lack of people? Aside from me the only believer is the grand priestess herself. We like it that way."
Avery shakes ever so slightly saying those words. It looks lonely.
"I don't dedicate my whole life to this church. I have some of my own things to do. However, if you do have any questions, I know everything the grand priestess does."
Avery spins on its heel and takes several steps back to the seat you first saw it on. Before anything else can happen, it turns back again and looks at you with pleading eyes.
"Please stay. Just for a little while."\
